Our Favourite TV Commercials Of All Time

In a world where we are constantly bombarded with commercials and wish we could download an app that will ban all commercials ever on everything, making one that people WANT to watch – and rewatch, isn’t easy. The following award winning ads range from funny to inspiring, but one thing they all have in common is that every miniscule detail of the ads sends a message powerful enough to alter the way people will feel and talk about the brand for years to come. That is the power of marketing, and sometimes 30 seconds is all it takes. In our article on empowerment, we’ve already mentioned that the Barbie “You Can Be Anything” campaign is one of our all time favourites. Now take a look at the rest…

Rolex: Celebrating Cinema (2017)

Aired during this year’s Oscars, it shows how the brand was involved in so much of our popular culture and arts, and sends a powerful reminder about why rolex is rolex.

Hyundai: Ryanville (2016)

Ryan Reynolds: We’ll gravitate towards that. As would most women – who this ad successfully targets.

Snickers: You’re Not You When You’re Hungry

(2010)

2 words: Betty White. However the ad also raises an important existential-crisis inducing question: If you’re not you when you’re hungry, but you’re always hungry…who are you…?

Old Spice: The Man Your Man Could Smell Like

(2010)

With almost 54 million views on YouTube, this is a classic. Aside from being hilariously intense and memorable, the ad also targets women even though it features a product for men. We all know men could care less about what shower gel they use – if any at all. Which is why the add successfully targets those who’ll actually end up buying it.

Durex: Get It On (2009)

Funny and cute – A powerful combo. This commercial is proof that often the most simple ones are the most impactful. Get it on, and get on with it.

Bud Light: Fist Bump Is Out, Slapping In (2007)

Funny and strangely satisfying to watch. Memorable to say the least.

Sony BRAVIA: Balls (2006)

You really gotta have balls to make an ad like this (pun intended). The mesmerizing commercial features thousands of actual bouncy balls cascading down a San Francisco Street. They were filmed by over 20 cameras and symbolize “Colour, like no other” for Sony’s LCD TV. The director laughed that “there’s currently no more bouncy balls available for children in America”. Reebok: Terry Tate (2003)

You’ll laugh for a solid 3 minutes after watching this. Maybe because the ad is the perfect. Or maybe because we wish we had a Terry Tate for every idiot we’ve ever had to work with.

Apple: 1984 (1984)

Leaving you curious and inspired, it’s crazy how accurately this commercial predicted the future.

Costa’s all time favourite commercial:
